Woman fatally shot in Houston Heights; police detain suspect after chase and hours-long standoff

What happened

A woman was shot and killed late Friday night in Houston’s Heights neighborhood, and police later detained a man they believe is connected to the killing after a vehicle pursuit and an hours-long standoff, investigators said.

The shooting was reported around midnight as officers responded to a call on West 20th Street near Lawrence Street. Responding officers found the victim on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
