Official Notice: Infrastructure and Road Closures

The City of Memphis is advising residents of a significant traffic disruption scheduled to begin tomorrow. Starting Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Macon Road will be closed to all through-traffic between Rocky Point Road and Sanga Road. This closure is expected to remain in effect through March 31, 2026, to facilitate critical construction work on the Shelby Farms Greenline Extension Project. Motorists are encouraged to utilize Rocky Point Road or Sanga Road as alternate routes during this period.

Additionally, the parking lot at the north end of Mud Island remains closed to the public. This closure is part of the ongoing Greenbelt Landing project construction. Residents and visitors should plan accordingly and use alternative parking facilities in the downtown and riverfront areas until the project reaches its next phase of completion.

City Governance: Upcoming Committee Meetings

The Memphis City Council has a full slate of committee meetings scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, 2026. These sessions provide an opportunity for public oversight on key municipal issues. The schedule for tomorrow includes:

  • MLG&W Committee: 9:00 AM
  • Parks & Environment Committee: 9:00 AM
  • Libraries and Neighborhood Improvement: 10:15 AM
  • Housing and Community Development: 10:20 AM
  • Economic Development and Tourism: 10:30 AM
  • Personnel and Government Affairs: 11:05 AM
  • Planning and Zoning Committee: 2:00 PM

All meetings are held at City Hall. Residents interested in providing public comment are reminded that agendas and supporting documents are typically posted to the city’s official portal the Friday prior to the meetings.

Public Health Advisory: Opioid Response Resources

Following the observance of Black Balloon Day on March 6, the Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) continues to promote its Opioid Response Program. Public service announcements remain active regarding the availability of free overdose prevention resources. A 24-hour overdose prevention vending machine is currently operational at the Hickory Hill Public Health Clinic. This resource provides naloxone kits and fentanyl test strips at no cost and with no questions asked.

The SCHD also encourages residents to listen to the latest episodes of the "Talking Public Health" podcast, which recently featured segments on "Disease Detectives" and dental health services available through the county. These programs are designed to keep the community informed about infectious disease prevention and local healthcare access.

Utility and Service Reminders

Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) reports that utility systems are stable following recent late-winter weather patterns, with 99.97% of customers currently in service. However, crews remain on standby for potential water main breaks as ground temperatures fluctuate. Residents are urged to report any visible water leaks or utility emergencies immediately through the official MLGW emergency hotline.
