Saturday in the Bluff City: Culture and Community

Memphis is buzzing this Saturday, February 21, 2026, with a vibrant lineup of theatrical performances, soulful music, and community gatherings. From the historic Orpheum Theatre to the heart of Midtown, there are plenty of ways to immerse yourself in the city's rich cultural scene today.

Theater and Stage Performances

For those seeking world-class theater, the Orpheum Theatre is hosting the beloved Broadway touring production of The Sound of Music. Today features two opportunities to catch the von Trapp family’s story, with a matinee at 2:00 pm and an evening performance at 7:30 pm. It is a perfect outing for families and classic musical enthusiasts alike.

Over at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, the Collage Dance Collective presents "RISE" at 2:30 pm. This performance is a staple of the city’s Black History Month celebrations, showcasing powerful choreography and the incredible talent of one of the nation’s leading professional ballet companies based right here in Memphis.

Live Music and Comedy

The music scene is equally active tonight. Local favorite and internationally acclaimed jazz artist Kandace Springs takes the stage at the Germantown Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) at 7:30 pm. Her smooth, soulful vocals are a must-see for jazz fans. Meanwhile, at Minglewood Hall, comedian Trevor Wallace brings his "Alpha Beta Male" tour to town for a 7:00 pm show, promising a night of high-energy laughs.

For a larger-than-life production, the Boys 4 Life Tour, featuring B2K, hits the FedExForum at 8:00 pm, bringing early-2000s R&B nostalgia to the downtown arena.

Exhibitions and Community Meetups

If you prefer a more laid-back morning, start your day at Memphis Heritage (2282 Madison Ave) for "Coffee with Dr. Bond." From 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Dr. Bond will lead a discussion titled "Parallel Lives: the Black Elite and the Black Working Class in Late 19th Century Memphis." It’s a unique chance to dive into local history over pastries and coffee.

Art lovers can also visit the "A Memphis of Hope" art show at Gallery Ten Ninety-One, which is open throughout February in honor of Black History Month. Additionally, the Cooper-Young Community Farmers Market is open today from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, offering locally grown produce and handmade goods in a friendly outdoor setting.
