Community Notice: Police Advisory Review Committee Session
Today, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the Police Advisory Review Committee (PARC) is hosting a public outreach event titled "Let’s Talk Over Bingo" at the Gaisman Community Center, located at 4221 Macon Road. This official session provides a platform for Memphis residents to engage with PARC members in an informal setting. From 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., attendees can enjoy refreshments and prizes while learning about the committee’s oversight functions. Residents are also invited to submit on-site complaints or feedback regarding local law enforcement services during the event.
Utility Advisory: MLGW Resumes Service Disconnections
Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) has officially resumed service disconnections for non-payment as of February 6, 2026. The utility had previously implemented a two-week suspension of disconnections to protect residents during the hazardous sub-freezing temperatures and ice accumulation caused by Winter Storm Fern. Following the stabilization of weather conditions, MLGW is urging customers with past-due balances to establish payment plans or make payments immediately to prevent service interruptions. The next MLGW Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, at 8:30 a.m. at the MLGW Administration Building on South Main Street.
Public Education: State Waiver and School Choice Updates
Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) announced on February 10 that the district has successfully obtained a state waiver from the Tennessee Department of Education regarding the recent winter weather closures. Students will not be required to make up the ten instructional days missed between late January and early February. Furthermore, the district’s 2026-27 School Choice application window is now officially open as of February 10. Parents and guardians are encouraged to submit applications for general choice transfers and optional school programs following the resolution of weather-related delays.
Municipal Governance: Upcoming Public Meetings
The City of Memphis has several important public board meetings scheduled for the remainder of the week. Residents are encouraged to participate in the following sessions:
- Land Use Control Board: A public meeting will be held on Thursday, February 12, at 9:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at 125 North Main Street.
