Public Notice: Infrastructure Upgrades and Holiday Service Adjustments

Major Traffic Alert: North Parkway Infrastructure Project
The City of Memphis and Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) have issued an official advisory regarding a significant road closure affecting the Downtown-to-Midtown corridor. Effective Friday, February 13, 2026, a section of eastbound North Parkway has been closed to all through traffic to facilitate the installation of new underground electric infrastructure. This project is expected to continue for approximately three months.
Commuters should be aware of the following detour routes and restrictions active this Saturday, February 14:
- Eastbound Detour: Traffic traveling east on North Parkway will be rerouted south at Manassas Street toward Lane Avenue. Drivers should then proceed east on Lane Avenue to Ayers Street and head north on Ayers Street to return to North Parkway.
- Local Access Only: Dunlap Street, north of Lane Avenue to North Parkway, is currently closed to through traffic. Access remains available for local residents and businesses only.
- Safety Warning: Utility crews and heavy machinery will be operating in the right-of-way. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and follow all posted barricades and directional signage.
Public Service Announcement: Pothole Repair Operations
Following the severe winter weather events of January 2026, the City of Memphis Public Works Department has officially transitioned its primary focus from ice mitigation to citywide pothole repair. The recent freeze-thaw cycles have resulted in significant asphalt deterioration across several high-traffic corridors.
Crews are currently prioritizing repairs based on traffic volume and emergency response needs. Major arterials and hospital routes are being addressed first, followed by neighborhood streets on a rolling basis. Residents are encouraged to assist by reporting hazardous road conditions through the following official channels:
- Call the City's service line at 311.
- Use the Memphis 311 mobile application to submit location data and photographs.
- For issues on state-maintained roadways, such as Poplar Avenue or Lamar Avenue, residents should contact the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
