City of Memphis Weekend Service Update

As of Saturday, February 7, 2026, the City of Memphis Solid Waste Division has authorized overtime operations to address the backlog in residential garbage and recycling collection. Following a significant winter storm that impacted the region in late January and early February, normal collection schedules were temporarily suspended due to hazardous road conditions and lingering ice in the public right-of-way. While regular Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday routes resumed on their standard schedules earlier this week, crews are now focused on completing delayed Monday and Tuesday routes. Residents who have not yet received service are advised to leave their carts at the curb through the evening to accommodate these recovery efforts.

Convenience Center Operations

To provide additional disposal options for residents during this recovery period, the City’s convenience centers will maintain regular weekend hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. today. The following locations are open and accepting residential waste and recycling:

  • 304 Collins Street
  • 3207 Farrisview Boulevard

Residents are encouraged to download the Memphis Curbside Collection app for real-time status updates and notifications regarding service completion in specific neighborhoods.

Public Safety Advisory: Super Bowl Weekend

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) and the Memphis Police Department have issued a joint advisory ahead of the upcoming Super Bowl weekend. Under the campaign slogan “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk,” local law enforcement will increase patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the city and surrounding Shelby County. Officials remind citizens that drinking and driving is 100% preventable and urge residents to use designated drivers or rideshare services to ensure the safety of all motorists on Memphis roadways.

City Council and Governance Updates

The Memphis City Council recently finalized its agenda following the remote session held on February 3. Due to previous inclement weather, several key items have been rescheduled for future consideration. Items regarding property and zoning adjustments (specifically items 2, 3, and 11-15) have been held until the February 24, 2026, session. Additionally, residents should prepare for the upcoming State of the City Address. Mayor Paul Young is scheduled to deliver this address on Tuesday, February 10, at First Baptist Broad, located at 2835 Broad Avenue. The event is open to the public from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will highlight the city's progress in public safety and infrastructure development.

Infrastructure and Development Notice

The Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC) and the City of Memphis have officially announced a major $74 million infrastructure upgrade project for the Beale Street Historic District. This investment, funded by the Tennessee Safety Grant, will focus on enhancing public safety, reducing blight, and improving sidewalk accessibility. While a final construction timeline has not been set, preliminary work is expected to begin later this year, spanning key areas from Beale Street to Rufus Thomas Boulevard.
