Holiday Service Schedule: Presidents’ Day Observance

In observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 16, 2026, the City of Memphis has announced that all non-essential government offices will be closed. This closure affects administrative offices and community centers. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, February 17.

The Solid Waste Management division has issued a revised collection schedule for the holiday week. There will be no trash, recycling, or yard waste collection on Monday. Residents who typically receive service on Monday or Tuesday should place their carts at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17. Residents with Wednesday through Friday schedules will see no changes to their service days. For those serviced by Team Waste, collections will proceed on a normal schedule despite the holiday. City crews are expected to work overtime throughout the week to ensure all overflow is cleared by Friday evening.

Public Safety: Tennessee Severe Weather Awareness Week

Today, Sunday, February 15, marks the beginning of Tennessee Severe Weather Awareness Week, which runs through February 21, 2026. The City of Memphis, in coordination with the National Weather Service, is urging all residents to review their emergency plans. With recent volatile winter conditions in the Mid-South, officials emphasize the importance of identifying safe rooms and ensuring weather alert systems are active on mobile devices.

Infrastructure and Public Works Updates

Following recent winter weather events, the Memphis Public Works Department is officially transitioning from snow and ice mitigation to intensive citywide pothole repair operations. Due to the repeated freeze-thaw cycles earlier this month, asphalt deterioration has increased across major corridors. Repair crews are prioritizing major arterials and emergency routes to support safe travel. Residents are encouraged to report significant road hazards via the 311 mobile app or the city’s online portal.

Additionally, the City Council has finalized funding transfers for several critical infrastructure projects. This includes over $2.1 million allocated for the Morningside Drain Improvement project to upgrade drainage systems in the Morningside Place neighborhood. Funding has also been authorized for the Hanley Elementary School Pedestrian Safety Enhancement project, which will begin construction phases this spring to improve sidewalks and crossings.

Health Advisory and Community Services

The Shelby County Health Department has released new public health guidance via its latest educational series. The current advisory focuses on food safety protocols and the prevention of food-borne illnesses during the winter months. Health officials also remind residents that while the headquarters and major clinics like Hickory Hill and Sycamore View remain operational during the week, they are closed today, Sunday, for routine services. Mobile immunization units are scheduled to resume community visits starting Tuesday.
