Memphis controls American Athletic Conference matchup from start to finish

Memphis delivered a wire-to-wire win Sunday night, defeating UTSA 95-69 at FedExForum in an American Athletic Conference game defined by efficient Tigers shooting and a decisive second-half run.

The result moved Memphis to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play. UTSA fell to 4-14 overall and 0-6 in the AAC, extending a losing streak that reached 11 games.

Hot shooting and a late-second-half burst widened the gap

Memphis produced one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season, finishing at 56.3% from the field and 50% from three-point range (11 of 22). The Tigers led 43-33 at halftime after closing the opening period on a 5-0 spurt, then continued to separate after the break.

The game’s defining stretch came in the second half, when Memphis used a sustained run to turn a comfortable lead into a blowout margin. Memphis’ advantage grew as large as 29 points, removing any realistic comeback path for a UTSA team that did not take a lead at any point.

Bench production and backcourt balance powered Memphis

Memphis’ scoring was led by Sincere Parker, who came off the bench to score 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Dug McDaniel added 18 points while connecting on four three-pointers and contributing six rebounds and six assists. Curtis Givens III scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including two makes from beyond the arc.

The blend of bench scoring, perimeter shot-making and playmaking allowed Memphis to maintain pace throughout the night, repeatedly answering UTSA possessions with efficient trips on the other end.

UTSA’s perimeter attempts kept it afloat early, but consistency slipped

UTSA freshman Dorian Hayes led the Roadrunners with 17 points, highlighted by 5-of-11 shooting from three-point range. LJ Brown and Jamir Simpson scored 14 points apiece, and Austin Nunez finished with 13.

While UTSA had multiple players reach double figures, the Roadrunners could not generate enough sustained defensive stops to keep the game within reach once Memphis’ second-half run began.

  • Final score: Memphis 95, UTSA 69
  • Halftime: Memphis 43, UTSA 33
  • Memphis shooting: 56.3% overall; 11-for-22 from three

Memphis’ combination of high-percentage shooting and multi-guard production created separation early and turned it into a comfortable conference win after halftime.

UTSA’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday at North Texas in Denton.
