What happened

A shooting in the Hyde Park area of Memphis late Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, left one person dead and another hospitalized, as investigators worked to determine what led up to the gunfire.

Police were dispatched at about 8:40 p.m. to the 1300 block of Hyde Park Boulevard, just off Chelsea Avenue. Officers located a man and a woman in the area suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Authorities later confirmed that the man died from his injuries, while the woman remained hospitalized.

Investigation status and what is known

As of Tuesday, Jan. 20, police had not released the victims’ identities, any suspect description, or information about a possible motive. Investigators have not publicly stated whether the victims knew each other, whether the shooting occurred inside a home or outdoors, or whether a firearm has been recovered.
