Public Service Announcement: Downtown Water Service Alert

Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) continues to monitor and manage water service impacts following a major water main break at South 4th Street and East Pontotoc Avenue. While repair crews have been working on-site throughout the weekend to address the rupture of a cast-iron pipe dating back to the early 1900s, residents in the immediate downtown vicinity may still experience fluctuating water pressure or temporary discoloration today, Monday, February 23, 2026.

Official guidance for affected customers remains in effect. If you experience discolored water, MLGW advises flushing your home or business lines by letting the cold water faucet run for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. This process helps clear any sediment or rust stirred up during the repair process. If water clarity does not return after 24 hours of intermittent flushing, please contact the MLGW service line.

Traffic Advisory: North Parkway Eastbound Closure

Motorists are reminded of the ongoing construction project impacting North Parkway. As of today, the eastbound section of North Parkway at Manassas Street remains closed to accommodate the installation of new underground electric infrastructure. This project, which officially commenced on February 13, is projected to last approximately three months.

  • Affected Route: Eastbound North Parkway at Manassas Street.
  • Work Type: Underground utility infrastructure maintenance.
  • Duration: Expected completion by mid-May 2026.
  • Recommended Action: Commuters should utilize marked detours or seek alternate routes to avoid morning and evening peak-hour congestion.
