Upcoming: 2026 State of the City Address

Mayor Paul Young is scheduled to deliver the 2026 State of the City Address on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The event, themed “Memphis Is Rising,” will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Broad, located at 2835 Broad Avenue. Residents are invited to attend in person to hear the administration’s goals for the coming year, including updates on public safety, infrastructure, and economic development. For those unable to attend, the address will be documented and shared through official city channels following the presentation.

Property Tax Payment Deadline

The Shelby County Trustee’s Office reminds all property owners that the deadline to pay 2025 property taxes without interest is February 28, 2026. Payments must be received or postmarked by midnight on the final day of February to avoid a 1.5% monthly interest penalty, which begins accruing on March 1. Property owners can make payments via the following methods:

  • Online through the official Trustee payment portal.
  • In person at the Trustee’s main office or various satellite locations throughout the county.
  • By mail, ensuring the postmark is dated no later than February 28.

MLGW Winter Moratorium and Billing Update

Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) continues its Winter Moratorium through March 1, 2026. This program ensures that elderly (ages 60+) and disabled customers who are registered for the program will not face utility disconnections during the coldest months. While participants are still responsible for their usage costs, payment plans for any balances accrued during the winter will be available starting in March. Additionally, following recent winter weather patterns earlier this month, MLGW has advised customers to monitor their energy usage via the mobile app, as heating requirements may lead to higher-than-average utility statements in the February billing cycle.

Public Health and Safety Advisories

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office and local law enforcement have issued a high-alert advisory for the current weekend. Following a “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” safety campaign launched on February 6, increased patrols are active across the city to prevent impaired driving. Furthermore, the Shelby County Health Department recognizes February as National Children’s Dental Health Month, encouraging parents to schedule routine check-ups and utilize community resources for preventative oral care. Residents are also reminded that winter park hours remain in effect at all city-managed recreational areas through the beginning of March.
