New nonstop route links Memphis and San Antonio twice weekly

Memphis International Airport is set to gain a new nonstop passenger route this spring, as Breeze Airways plans to begin direct service to San Antonio International Airport on May 8, 2026. The schedule is currently listed as operating twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, using a 137-seat Airbus A220.

The planned published times show departures from Memphis at 8:25 a.m. Central with arrival in San Antonio at 10:30 a.m., and returns departing San Antonio at 11:30 a.m. with arrival back in Memphis at 1:25 p.m. The airline has also advertised introductory one-way fares starting at $49, with pricing subject to standard airline fare variability.

How the route fits into MEM’s recent air-service changes

The Memphis–San Antonio announcement extends Breeze’s footprint at MEM, where the carrier began service in May 2025. With this addition, San Antonio becomes the fourth destination served by Breeze from Memphis, building on routes and services the airline has introduced at the airport since its entry into the market.

MEM’s route map has been evolving as airlines test new city pairs and adjust capacity seasonally. Over the past year, multiple carriers have added service to new destinations, reflecting a broader push by airports and airlines to match routes to demand and strengthen connectivity from mid-sized markets. At the same time, airlines have also demonstrated willingness to pause or modify schedules when demand softens, particularly in winter months.

What travelers should know before booking

  • Start date: May 8, 2026.

  • Frequency: Twice weekly (Mondays and Fridays) as currently scheduled.

  • Aircraft: Airbus A220 (137 seats).

  • Timing: Morning outbound and late-morning return, allowing same-day arrival on both ends.

  • Fares: Introductory pricing has been promoted from $49 one-way, but final costs depend on date, availability, and optional add-ons.

Schedules and promotional fares are subject to change as airlines finalize seasonal capacity and operational planning.

Why nonstop additions matter for regional connectivity

New nonstop routes can reduce total travel time compared with connecting itineraries and may provide new options for leisure travelers and small-business itineraries that previously required hub connections. For Memphis, service to San Antonio adds a major Texas market that can support both visitor travel and outbound demand, while also complementing other low-cost and limited-frequency routes that have been introduced at MEM in recent years.

Airline planners typically evaluate new routes over time based on load factors, fare performance, and seasonality. The twice-weekly structure is commonly used as an entry strategy in developing markets, allowing an airline to test demand while limiting operational risk.
